To self-publish a novel, an author needs to have the manuscript in a format that publishers and printers will accept. Ingram and Amazon are the most popular self-publishing outlets, but even newer distributors like Draft 2 Digital have similar standards.
Our standard price is $100 to produce:
- For interior print (paperback, hardcover): a PDF with specific printer alignments
- For eBook/Kindle: epub
The manuscript you provide us must be complete. Introduction, author bio, or any front or back matter needs to be in the document and where you want them to be placed. If you change your mind after the proof, or need to fix typos, there will be revision costs. If you need a proofreader or editor, we can make suggestions, but edit and proof before you send it to us.
Note: We aren’t publishing it for you. That requires an account with the printer/publishing/distribution company (Amazon, Ingram, D2D, etc.) and we aren’t sharing ours.
What we don’t work on: AI of any sort (we might refuse the job because we believe you use AI), or picture books such as children’s or cookbooks.
What we’d charge extra for: Footnotes, tables, images, non-text characters, or non-standard text treatment, multiple print sizes, revisions mentioned above, etc.
What you should have ready: A Word document .doc, .docx (Google Docs; download as Word, Apple; save as Word) with all of your front, middle, and back matter included, edited, and proofed. A size in mind if you are printing paperback/hardcover (5×8, 5.5×8.5, etc.) which we are happy to discuss options on. Any extras mentioned above. Quality images if you intend to pay for them to be added, and the number of them to discuss.
We are providing a simple service with tools we already use all year round. The standard price assumes the base effort required, including communicating with people who are new and unsure of the process. We want to help authors and will guide you through the procedure, but lengthy phone calls and repetitive emails are not included.
